RAF Sturgate re-opened in 1953 to accommodate the USAF Strategic Air Command units. Republic F-84 Thunderchief's of the 508th Strategic Fighter Wing operated from Sturgate as late as final closure in 1964. It was also used to house SAC bombers on temporary duty (TDY) from the United States. Much of RAF Sturgate still remains today. The Northwest corner of this former RAF airfield is now home to local flying club, Lincoln Aero Club Ltd, who operate on a portion of the former East/West runway. Aircraft & Squadrons
